My hope with any piece of furniture I build is that 100 years from now it will still sit in someone’s living room — not a precious antique, but in everyday use. It’ll have dings and dents, and I don’t mind that; those are just signs that it’s been useful over the years. I expect, though, that the joints will remain tight and strong and that the drawers will slide smoothly. I hope that its design is not of a kind that went “out of fashion,” so it was never carted off to an attic or garage. And I like to imagine that, now and then, it might catch the eye of a guest, who might say: “That’s cool. Where’d you get that?”
